This one really surprised me even after 20 years of RVing and almost 10 years of owning an RV with an Oasis. So my problem started when we arrived at our campground and I realized that the hot water was not very hot. A thermometer showed it about 110 degrees…which is less hot that I am used to. Usually you cant keep your hands under full hot water. After checking the usual things and trying both electric and the furnace, asking the internet, searching and even asking AI without making progress, I called ITR. I thought it might be a sensor on the unit that was turning it off before allowing it to follow heat up…or maybe a mixing valve issue.
As usual, ITR was very helpful as we went through many steps to determine why this might be happening. I won’t go through them all, but one thing he said to check surprised me (and I was a bit cynical about) was to check to outside shower to make sure it was not on. As you know you can turn on the hot and/or cold faucets but shut off the shower head (or in my case a garden hose nozzle) and it will not be obvious that the water is actually on. But it turns out that if you leave your outside shower in this state (hot and cold open) it acts as a mixing valve and will cool your water down. In my case in knocked at least 20 degrees off it. So although I thought it was odd, I went and checked the shower faucet and both were wide open, but with the nozzle on the end, I was not obvious. Once it turned these lines both off, my hot water was back to its usual very hot state.
This one kinda blew my mind a bit, but I guess it makes sense? I am not sure would have believed it had I not had it happen to me, but I guess it’s true.
Anyway, it was a really an eye opener and wanted to post it out there in case someone else finds their Oasis not pushing out very hot water….go check the outside shower and make sure they are both off. I was thrilled it was a free fix.
