I guess it depends on how they use the site-lock system, but I can see the argument both ways. Depending on how a campground uses a system it can be okay, like don't book me for a specific site then move me out of it later. At the end of the day though it all depends on what people are willing to pay for. If it deters enough people from camping at certain places because they have policies in place the we'll see them disappear. However I think most are willing to suck up the extra cost if they want to lock their sites, so that's on them.

We need to remember that a site type and a specific site are two different things. I may pay for a pull thru and I should get that without any lock needed. Now if I want a site on a corner near the river, lake, whatever then that may be worth paying to secure that very specific site that is going to make my stay more enjoyable. It's business, they are out to make money, I get it. It just depends on your desires and the specific setup for that campground.

i paid a lock fee for a particular site we wanted, at a popular park. it was a very long, easily accessed site directly across from showers and laundry, and I could see a possibility that we'd be moved to a smaller site because we're only 35 feet. we wanted the site for its view, and we were staying several days, so $10 more was no big deal. That's the only time, though.

Don't get me started.

I would cut off my nose to spite my face.

If your reservation systems shows me available spots to choose from for my stay and I select one and pay in full upfront I expect that site. If it is not available to me when I arrive there will be some spirited conversation.

Unless I was OK with the swap, I would refuse the site and tell them I am stopping payment and leave even if I had nowhere to go. And then let my feelings be known in my review.

I might also consider breach of contract lawsuit for damages, but none of this applies to me. I boondock!

You know, I thought of that afterwards. I usually get a confirmation email with my full payment and it typically has the site number, that to me is a contract for a specific site.

I am not the litigious type, but I may reference this contract as legal and binding and see where that goes but at some point I will just walk away as I have little patience dealing with such things.

Honestly! That is how things become normal. People don't make the bad apples flee. Like I said, I have no standing!!! Wow where have I heard that before?

You're still entitled to an opinion.
