We received the standard Starlink system for Christmas from our daughter. She didn't like it when we are off grid with no communications. Sometimes we kind of liked it. Anyway If I could ask a question about this. I am thinking of going with the base $50/ month plan. For you who have used this do you find this adequate in most cases?

This all depends on what you use Internet for. Do you stream TV or videos (YouTube TV, Netflix, etc. etc.)? Do you browse social media often as they can have high bandwidth usage from the images. So it all depends. You can minimize Starlink bandwidth usage by using cellular on devices with cellular plans, for example I'll turn Wi-Fi off on my phone so that my phone uses my Verizon unlimited and not Starlink bandwidth. You just have to be smart and be careful and track usage to learn what you're using and what you really need to pay for.

If you could only have one, would you go with the standard starlink, or the mini?
My use case will involve teams meetings, email, browsing and streaming.
I'm pretty much an average business user, not overly tech savvy, but not a complete novice either.
Not wanting to drill holes and route too much wiring....simple and reliable is what I'm after.
I have been using the TravelFi system and it has worked fine for my needs so far but I'd like a little better performance.

Standard. This is what I have and will use for normal Internet use. The mini is for the toad, airplane, backup etc. The larger dish is always going to be better, at least I would think. I imagine someday Starlink may come packaged in a dome, who knows...innovation continues.

We have the standard and if buying again, would get the standard.
Reason: believe the larger area will provide a better signal and we are still working and Internet is not just a luxury but a requirement for work purposes.

I set the Starlink up today and I was amazed at how easy it was. Set up once unplugged and moved to another spot and reconnected. For an old guy, it was easy. We did the mini, it should be fine for our needs.

It's only going to get better. Glad to hear all went well. Amazing technology.

I decided to jump on this deal and I have one on the way.

Question: I see “mini routers” available. What are they for?

FOMO is real :) But it's a great device and it fits so nice in the little carry case I bought and linked above.

The mini has its own built in router so it's not needed, however, it's only Wi-Fi 5 - still fine for our needs. I think the additional router offered allows a mesh setup, i.e. multiple routers talking to each other and new Wi-Fi technology I presume. Unless you have issues with Wi-Fi I would not get it.

Amazon awaits your Starlink mini accessory collection.

I saw on my feeds that the Mini is on sale for the lowest price yet.

i've been watching that for a few days and finally decided that it might go up in price so I checked it this morning and it had gone down yet more - about $294, so I ordered the heck out of it, and when I checked back later it had gone up to $317. Weird.

Yep, my plane has a skylight (like sunroof) which is why my Amazon list shows the suction mount contraption.

I got the tripod today, it's really nice and looks like it will work with any of the Starlinks. If you're looking for a tripod, this one is worth a look.

I saw that you mentioned airplane. I heard somewhere that you can't use the Starlink over 100 mph. Not a problem for us - we rarely travel over 100 mph in our motorhome.

I have a cub so that also typically isn't an issue either :), however, it's not for in flight. It's for stop overs, airplane camping, etc. The mini is versatile for so many uses, neat capability.

my dad had a couple of small planes - one was a Cessna two seater. He would pick me up and fly me back to university three hours away and it took only an hour. I remember he was doing 100 miles an hour.
he tried to teach me enough about flying that I might command the plane if something happened to him. And how to get out of emergency situations. But I'm afraid my lessons ended after I threatened him with bodily harm when he demonstrated a stall to me. I was still gasping in fright from the first one, and he says, "did you hear that warning whine?" and did it AGAIN!
I was very polite to my dad ...I would never shout at him or speak disrespectfully....but I did then.

I just want to say…the awesomeness of this little sucker is off the charts. Inevitably, the time will come when you can carry a Starlink of some sort in your hip pocket like a cellphone, but for now, this thing is untouchable IMO.

We are heading out Sunday so we will see how ours works. I have connected several times here at the house and it has been great.
Dr appointments have gotten into travel the last couple of months. We are both in good shape so that’s a plus.
