Texas ended State inspections for most counties in Jan. of 2025. However emissions testing remained a requirement in a number of urban counties. There was some confusion concerning MH's. Diesels were always exempt, but until Jan. gas burners regardless of weight were not. I called the DMV last spring and was told gas burners would still be required to undergo emissions testing in the counties not exempted from testing. However now the new standard is no testing regardless of the county where registered if under 8,500 gvw or if the vehicle is not primarily operated in the county where registered ( which would ordinarily be the case for any motorhome). I was able today to successfully register ( for a fee of course) my MH, even though I'm in one of the non-exempt counties and without the emissions certification. One less thing to deal with anyway.

NH ended all vehicle inspection at the end of this month. I've paid as much as $185 for a MH inspection here.

In Texas we now have the " Inspection Replacement Fee" a euphemism for "Fee for not charging a fee" . In the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry was buying a car Elains boyfriend, the car salesman doing the closing, said " and then we have here the fee for charging a fee"

and then we have here the fee for charging a fee

😂😂
I believe we have this more often than we think.

No emissions tests here on any vehicle.. Just Safety check..lights signals wipers brakes horn. 20 bucks for 2 years. But 350 if you dont have a current sticker.

Emissions was part of our safety inspection until Jan. 2025. Now only emissions, no safety ( it was a racket anyway) for non commercial vehicles under 8500 lbs in certain urban counties. The test itself is $15.00 yearly. The only thing for me is the inspections required proof of insurance, I’m concerned now that more folks will skip the insurance. Uninsured motorists are the reason insurance in Louisiana is double that in Texas. No proof of insurance is required for online registration renewal.
