Yes, a tube. Like what you find in a bicycle tire. Or better yet, buy a new tire, that one doesn't make me feel warm-n-fuzzy at all.

I agree with the tech. I don’t think it looks severe enough to replace. It looks kind of ugly but its just a small chunk of tread. And not that any of us would do it, but the tires can be re-grooved.

These tires have a huge amount of rubber, I agree, it doesn't look bad. But as I mentioned to @ARD offline you can have Michelin inspect it. I had issues with a few of my tires being way out of balance and Michelin arranged an inspection, of course it was worthless and FL warranty replaced the two tires.

That's how i felt too! Had the gouge been anywhere else on the tire, he would have said to replace it. The outer edge is very thick rubber. At the end of the day, I trusted my uncle whose company does truck repairs and he felt it was okay.
