I suspect this will have even less effect on what auto manufacturers do than the relaxation of fuel economy requirements did.
 
It's a change authorizing a software change only which will enable normal to near normal operation for up to 4 wks after a DEF system failure in non farm vehicles and up to 36 hours in farm equipment.
Which will go a long way towards solving the problems farmers are facing today.

The questions I have are, will we be notified by our diesel vehicle suppliers when a software change is available, and how much will they charge to do the reprogramming?

The present situation is untenable for RVers, let alone truckers and farmers. Imagine you are on a thousand-mile trip home, and you get the dreaded 150 miles to limp mode message. That will ruin your day.
