Question Water pump inlet filter orientation, top or bottom?

I see various pictures of water pump inlet filters, some are above the line (top) and some are below. My understanding is it should be below to the sediment falls to the bottom. What's your opinion on proper orientation of the inlet filter housing?
 
Bowl should be hanging down
You mean the clear part with the screen? Newmar has mine the this up, but the intake and out flow from the pump is on the bottom of the pump.

Yes, I'm talking about the clear "jar" with filter in it. I believe it should be at the bottom, not the top so sediment falls to the bottom as it's filtered.

Correct, all my past RV's were this way
