The park looks awesome but I'm glad the bugs are yours and not mine!We arrived Friday for a 4 month stay in Montana. In 7 years staying here I have never seen the Cadis/Mayflies hatch this early.

Pike's Peak is nearby. Worth the drive to the top if you have time.Garden of the Gods Colorado Springs, Co.
Million Dollar Highway is on my bucket list. Don't know when we will get there though.Monument RV Resort Fruita, Colorado
I left the Front Range Sunday morning, a day earlier than planned, because of weather moving into the Rocky Mountains Sunday night into Monday. Springtime in the Rockies is a time you need to be aware of the rapidly changing weather conditions. Snow was forecasted for the mountains and I was going to be crossing the Continental Divide slogging over a few high mountain passes with elevations of 10-11,000+ feet. My drive over on Sunday was pleasant and enjoyable and it felt awesome being in the Rockies after spending my Winter in the desert. While I was on the Front Range I had all of my annual services completed, house and chassis, as well as a few piddly things taken care of at my home dealer, TransWest in Frederick, CO. Monument RV Resort, where I have stayed numerous times, is right down the road from Monument National Park and in close proximity to the Grand Mesa, as well as West Slope towns of Montrose, Ouray, the Million Dollar Highway, and Silverton. I will be having an enjoyable time in Colorful Colorado during my 10 days here...![]()

The Million Dollar Highway/Red Mountain Pass is one of the more beautiful high mountain roads in Colorado. The drive between Ouray and Silverton is spectacular... especially in the Fall when the Aspen trees leaves are golden-yellow. I have had some enthusiastic rides over the Million Dollar Highway on my motorcycles. It's one of the only high mountain passes that doesn't have guard rails...Million Dollar Highway is on my bucket list. Don't know when we will get there though.
Ya, we're pretty careful about roads with switchbacks and tight turns these days. We drove Cal Highway 1 from Leggett to Fort Bragg with our old 28 foot towing a 2 door Jeep. There was a warning sign at the entrance saying max length of 31 feet. We did it but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Sports car or motorcycle would be more appropriate. Our game plan is to use Durango as a base and do a two or three day loop with the Jeep up to Ridgway then over to Telluride and on to Delores and home to Durango. The Million Dollar Highway/Red Mountain Pass is one of the more beautiful high mountain roads in Colorado. The switchbacks are numerous and tight, in addition, there are only a few short turnouts to allow all the vehicles stacked up behind you to pass.
