There’s a saying in the military that goes something like “No plan ever survives contact with the enemy”. The same could be said about Mr and Mrs Neemer’s plans for this winter.

We headed out on 28 Dec on what was supposed to be a two month excursion into southern Florida. Two days into the trip I began to feel under the weather. By the fourth day, I was down hard and Kelly was beginning to feel it too.

If you have been able to escape this flu variant that’s been making the news, count yourself lucky. It’s special.

We extended an overnight stop in Tifton GA to six nights, trying to become human again. We both felt so bad it became obvious FL was not in the cards this year. So we turned around and headed north towards home.

Yesterday, we were on I-95 going through Richmond VA, about an hour from home. The weather was bad and I-95 was littered with accidents. Unfortunately, we became part of the carnage when a Ford F-150 spun out beside us and took out our Sprinter toad.

We are home now and licking our wounds. The insurance companies will do what they do and eventually things will go back to normal. What a way to start the year.

So sorry to hear. Hope your house feels better soon.

I understand this variant hits boomers harder than in past years. Glad you guys soldiered through it. Mike Tyson said "Everybody has a plan 'til they get punched in the mouth".

Wishing you and CINCHOUSE a speedy recovery! Sorry for the fiasco you endured. I hope the mainline was undamaged?

Return to MOB, rest, regroup, redeploy in the spring, locked and loaded.

Thanks @Neal. The toad took quite a shock. While it was struck about 1/2 way back, it was a square hit and it killed my tow bar and pulled the base plate away from the front end. The Newmar was not touched directly, but I’m a little concerned about the hitch receiver’s integrity. I’ll have to have that checked out.

This is the worst influenza outbreak in 25 years. Everyone should get the influenza vaccine even thought this particular outbreak is fueled by a variant not in the vaccine. But there is enough protection to avoid serious illness with the current vaccine. You still may get sick, but likely not hospital visit.

The virus is raging right now. Get some N95 masks just like during COVID. It spreads exactly the same way as COVID by respiratory droplets. Shop early and avoid all indoor gatherings of large groups of people.

Here is the nationwide carnage.

The "Subclade K" strain a new version of the H3N2 has some mutations that look different to the immune system. The B/Yamagata strain however has disappeared globally, thats why this years shots are trivalent ( H1N1, H3N2 and B/Victoria) and not quadravalent.
While the shot may not prevent contracting the flu, it may prevent the most serious complications especially for boomers who were slammed relatively hard during flu season in the Southern Hemisphere and are being similarly affected up here.

I got that flu. I was down for 5 days!! Now, two weeks later, still coughing and running nose, but no infection in the junk coming out of my body.
