$680 to w&w a 35-ft Motorhome??!!

Am I out of touch with the present? We we’re charged $400 back home, last year, and I felt grumpy. But $680?????
Are we supposed to TIP? we don’t have enough cash to tip.
And btw, they jacked prices 30% where we are in Santa Fe for the balloon festival in Albuquerque, even though we’re leaving before the festival. . They can get the prices, I guess. park is almost full.
Do you normally tip for washing? We used the same service here a year ago, and the price was more like $400-$450. We were downtown yesterday, and swarmed by beggars and people accosting us to sell things. Not enjoyable at all.
Plus, Bob was out walking on Cerrillos yesterday and saw a 2 white cars tearing around a corner on this 7-lane road, firing shots at each other - he counted 7 until they were out of earshot.
I don’t know if I’d ever come back. We checked out the other well-rated RV park and it was unimpressive - seedy neighborhood (kinda normal for many Rv parks) and it just wasn’t a pretty park. Desert. I don’t get the high ratings. (I admit I’m pretty turned off in general by SF today).
But, back to the topic - tip or no tip? We’re normally generous tippers, but sheesh.

Comparing your vacation spot with “back home” is pointless. The reason that you’re not “back home” is because you wanted to be somewhere else.
If that ”somewhere else” is seedy, violent, or undesirable for some reason, then leave and go back home.

I live in Florida. A vacation spot. A tourist trap.
I tire of listening to tourists complain about our prices, our traffic, our sales tax, and everything else that “isn’t like this back home”.
Stay home if that’s what you want.

Wow, nice. That’s not my question. And, I don’t recall comparing anything but the price of W&W. “Back home” is like apples and oranges, but yeah, I can compare it to our experience last year.

Presuming W&W is wash and wax that is not unusual, depending on the time of year and location. The best detailers are getting 700 for a 45-foot in the Palm Springs area. The level of detail is outstanding, and they are here for most of the day. Others will do it for cheaper, but it is not the same quality work. As far as tipping goes, it is your call. If you feel they went beyond to satisfy you and do a great job, a little extra is excellent, and they usually appreciate it.

Yes, wash and wax. I’m just shocked at the price increase since last year - probably due to the Albuquerque balloon festival. We’re just under 35 feet, not 45. These detailers do a good job, but I’m going to steer clear of this area during the ABF in the future. We've been coming to SF for the past 10 years, always around this time. And this year seems different - could be my imagination.

So I lived in Albuquerque for 9 years, sorry to hear nothings changed. Like another said, I didn't complain to the locals, but didn't like it there mostly because of what you described. Short statement, I went back where I came from and hoped the gang mentality stayed there. So far I have managed to stay clear of it.

Now Florida (just got back from a road trip)! Only reason I am attracted is my daughter's family lives there!!! I think everything price wise is out of line!!! The answer is as stated above! I go visit, then I leave, that simple.

Do you tip? When I have something done where tips are customarily I tip! The worker is not responsible for the price, but he/she relies on the tip to make ends meet! Why would I rob Peter because Paul robbed me!!!

Although some consider tipping part of the transaction, I disagree. The price is "set" up front and you expect a certain finish. If it's above your expectation feel free to express your glee with a tip...but know that if you are less than pleased you won't get a good reaction to paying less. As for things being different...you are not imagining it. The Country has gone to hell. Feels like the "times of Noah" to me...we just try to stay "out of the way" and under the radar these days...our home is California and everyday brings another indication "things ain't Kosher anymore". It’s all about supply and demand. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy. If enough people don’t buy, prices drop. it sounds a bit steep for me as well. Guess I’ll wash and wax it myself. It may take me longer, but I’m in no hurry/.
