Hitch tightener. Get one!

If you use a hitch tightener, you won't be able to quickly remove the tow bar assembly from the receiver; wrenches are required. The better approach, IMO, is to focus on pulling the pins at the ends of the tow bar arms.

There's another whole debate; do you lock those pins or not?

I don’t. I use the roadmaster pins and and carry three extras. I can be convinced to use a different one if there’s something better.
