How to use the pump at the Truck Stop

Dyed fuel is for non road use applications. It's cheaper because it doesn't have the road tax applied to the pump price. Don't get caught with red fuel in you RV.

Thank you for the info. You say it still shuts off but not at 100. The constant shutting off is so annoying. When does it shut off for you?
Try turning the nozzle to the side or pulling it out a little. Sounds like it's getting fuel down the vent tube and causing it to shut off.
 
Question the DEF at pump? I have the TSD card works great at TA stations. I just filled my diesel coach for the first time last week. I did not need DEF because it is over 3/4 full, so I just skipped that option on the screen.

Here is my question, when I DO need DEF, I pick it on the screen. When I am done pumping my regular fuel, do I hang up the pump handle? Or do I leave it off and hit a DEF button? How does the pump know when to pump the DEF. And yes I have to pull forward and open bay door to fill my DEF tank.

After you finish diesel, you hang up the pump. The screen then advances to the DEF and says start pumping def--or press def start, something like that. I remove the handle from the def, press the start, and lay it on the ground. Then I move the coach forward to get to the def, and then return and finish filling the def tank.

It may not be necessary to press start in such a hurry, but I have worried about time outs. Most trucks have the 2 tanks next to each other and do not need such a long delay, so it seems reasonable that a timeout would exist.

Are there two different pump handles, one for Diesel and one for DEF. Or just one handle that switches to DEF. I can't remember on the pump at TA. It did have a big DEF Button, but I don't know if I had to hit that to pump DEF.

Here is a picture of a fuel pump at the truck stop. The large pump nozzle on the left is Diesel. The one on the right with a smaller nozzle is DEF. It is often hidden behind a fold up cover (you can see it above the nozzle) that you lift above the pump.

I go through the options selecting both diesel and then DEF when I need DEF. I pump diesel normally. My coach I have to pull forward to get to the DEF aft of my rear axle. I'll hang up the diesel nozzle and touch nothing at this time. Pull the coach forward then go back to the pump and now lift the DEF nozzle and press the button (yellow button in blue section) to start DEF. It will tell you when to start pumping.

So you don't have a timeout on the pump between hanging up...moving forward, and then getting back to pump def? I just assumed there was, but never tried it. That is good to know!

I have not experienced a timeout but I assume there is one so I hustle, including the practice now of leaving the engine running which helps.
 
If there is a timeout it is fairly lengthily. I don’t do anything with regards to DEF until I pull forward. Sometimes I even had to wait for truck ahead to move out as it was tight

Well that answers it then--next time I will be trying this. Doesn't feel right letting a nozzle rest on the ground.
