I got the new DEF head sensor on September 3 after some super-quick service from Spartan. Installed the same day and off on the trip! It's four weeks and about 1200 miles later... IMG_3366 3.JPG
More of the same, but different. This time it's the DEF pump...easier to obtain, but the consequences are just as dire. The dreaded red derate light came shortly after the photo. The great work of Cummins Sales & Service in Albany, GA saved the day!

Mi tambien. And I have never even used it. Sounds horrible.

Good news is you always seem to find a place to get it done somehow. That's 2 in a row.

FLSteve ? ?

You’re absolutely correct, Steve. I have been extremely fortunate with getting repairs, and I’m grateful and thankful. But, I still really don’t like DEF!

I recenlty was prepping for a trip to Pensacola(early Sept); week before engine light comes on. Local Autozone checked the 'code'-long story/short the DEF pump had to be changed out. Seems the 'heater' wiring for the DEF is actually hardwired into the pump(who made that call??)-- not a fan of DEF but wha-ya-gonna-do?

Had a couple different brand new diesels since DEF started being required on motors, and one new Cummins. The only issue I have ever had involving DEF was with the Cummins, had to have the whole DEF tower replaced.

They do make a 'DEF' delete kit..
True-be sure to check your states environmental requirements as the "kit' completely changes the exhaust system/computer set up and could keep your truck from passing inspection.

The EPA is cracking down on companies supplying those kits and fining them a substantial amount of money.

Check out the RPM Act if you want to see what SEMA is trying to do to stop it.
