For ISL people: Does anyone know which belt to use if your a/c compressor gets trashed and you want to eliminate the compressor while it on the road?

What is driven by the belt?

I just read about someone using a bypass belt. I've asked for more information and will forward if I hear back.

@Neemer I don't know if this helpful to you, but I asked a question on Newmar Owners Group FB page, as I'm trying to make sure I have spare parts for a trip to Alaska next year. I received the following information from Joe Midolo in response to my question.

"On the Cummings if you lose your ac clutch and it locks up, you can’t run your motor. The bypass belt is shorter so that you can remove a pully and route the belt so that it does not go over your ac compressor. It’s VERY common. Happened to me. I ubered to a Napa. Bought the belt and was back in the road in 60 minutes. Otherwise you’re waiting a week to get an ac compressor and someone to install. When I got home I swapped out my compressor. Luckily I can do my own service but the belt is a must."

To bypass a failed A/C compressor on a Cummins ISL engine, you can use a shorter belt that skips the compressor pulley. Measure the new belt path without the compressor, and then find a matching belt at an auto parts store. Alternatively, you can check if there’s a non-A/C belt option for your engine. This solution is a temporary fix until the compressor can be repaired or replaced.
