I've been a competitive bike rider most of my life and once you throw your leg of a high end bike you will be spoiled for life.
With my compulsive nature, being spoiled by yet another high-dollar consumable is probably not in my best financial interests. :)

Someone hacked @Jim's computer. Acting practical and responsible. Pure sign it's an imposter.

Yeah, I can't believe I said that, lol. A fleeting moment of weakness. :)

Bought my wife and I a pair of Segway Ninebots after not making a decision on an e-bike. We think they’re a hoot (took my wife one ride to be convinced but she’s still timid.)

They’re great to jump around town but we “have” gotten a couple hand gestures and comment. I think many really reject the “e” movement; whether bike or scooter. That said, I’ve seen scooters banned in some CGs. Sheesh. Yet they’ll let some idiot rip through the park in a 5,000 auto without regard.

Even after years of roller blading, I don’t think I’d ever attempt an urban commute without a brake.

I still prefer off-roading on an MTB…much more comfortable. Just wish they weren’t so stinkin heavy. Nice to be able to fold and lift a scooter and load it into the bed of my truck!

People (and I assume you meant "flipped you off" by the term, hand gesture?) actually did that? People can be such jerks these days.

Trish and I have a couple of "old school" Segways (like the cops used to ride around in the malls) that we've had for about 10 years. Batteries need to be replaced but I've held off on it because they're so big and hard to transport. I might bring them out to the lot here at Bella Terra and use them to cruse around the park. But just to large to easily toss in a MH.

More “acting responsibly” with a hint of a MH purchase? What’s the betting line in Vegas that he gets another Tiffin?

A recent report indicated that sensitive rain forests are being destroyed by companies mining nickel. Nickel is the primary component of batteries used for electric vehicles. One step forward, two steps back. So in order to save the planet we choose to destroy the planet. Ride your bicycle with "LEG POWER". I don't think a bit of sweat is damaging to the planet and it certainly is better for one's health.

I have taken several 5 day 350 mile old style bike trips with all the gear packed on. It was great fun in my younger years and nice to do with my sons and their cousins. Now at 59 I'll take my DelSol E-Bike every time. My wife and I travel with ours on a nice rack and we have a great time. Ours can hit just under 20MPH so you can really move along if needed.

Well it’s been a while for this thread and I am now seriously contemplating a pair of E bikes, so I thought I’d revive it and see if there are any new ideas, lessons learned, regrets, recommendations, etc. I’ll probably buy in the next week or so and may take advantage of the black friday thing if I’m going to do this anyway, so it would be good to get some input. I have a couple racks, some steel, and a couple welders so transporting and securing them won’t be an issue.

On securing your e-bike, I was informed by the management at one coastal park I recently visited, that there is a ring of e-bike thieves working the west coast, paying transients to go into RV parks specificially to steal e-bikes which they then re-sell. Sounds a little far-fetched, but these days… So I’ll take the warning seriously and lock up the frames and wheels and if the batteries are removable without a key, I’ll keep them inside. I also will not buy used from Craigslist for a variety of reasons, this one included.

As for what I am contemplating, this bike seems to meet the criteria without breaking the bank. I’m buying from a local bike shop, rather than on-line, because they have a good warranty and service agreement and I want to ride the bike, but not work on it. So the bike that currently has my eye: Explore E+ 2 GTS 28MPH (2022) | Trekking bike | Giant Bicycles US
