Still lots of white on those hills. Any idea on how long that snows stays?Rifle Gap State Park Rifle, Colorado
After gazing at the spectacular Rocky Mountains from the Front Range the past few weeks, today I drove into the Rockies over the Continental Divide. I slogged over 4 high mountain passes ranging from 8-9,000 feet to 10,100+ and 11,100+ feet heading for Rifle Gap State Park in Rifle, Colorado. My freshly serviced Ventana did a nice job tugging over the passes getting 5 mpg... not my typical 8 mpg.I will be here a week visiting 2 of my children that live nearby in the Aspen Valley.

I grew up near Banff Alberta so I know about the twelve months of snow. This area just received a substantial amount of new snow last week. The higher peaks around 12,000-14,000 feet will usually remain capped with snow throughout the Summer.
It can, and does, snow at the higher elevations throughout the year. In the 50 years that I lived in the Rockies I've seen it snow all 12 months of the year.
