Warning: Going to be bad here!

To date I have done my OASIS annual services but I admit, I question if it's necessary. If it's working, why mess with it? I know there are filters, the main one that I would definitely replace is the diesel filter, simple to do. There is another filter within the unit but I'm not sure it's as critical. I do keep the annual service kit on board at all times and once used it's replaced for the next year's service. I'm coming up in my 3 year and I'm ready to do it but I'm just putting to words here what's in my head...is it really necessary? I am going to do the 3 year soon and have to do more electrical inspections and cleanup after fixing the last short. Make sure you do your electrical inspections at the 120V line connection and below the hour meter or by inspecting from the front of the unit where you can also look up and in that area. Inspect inspect inspect!

Come on, just between us, do you do your OASIS service every year? What are your thoughts on this maintenance task?

Super helpful step by step video - anyone can do this!

So far, yes. We had Newmar do our annual service when we were there last June. That was one year after we took delivery of the coach. The June anniversary is approaching again and we will be faced with deciding whether it needs to be done annually or not. We'll be watching this threat.

I did mine last year first time since I owned. I don’t use my coach enough to warrant it every year. I will do it next year along with my gen. How many carry a spare pump? I have debated getting one.

I don't carry "one;" I carry two! With the documented failure rate of those pumps (especially the earlier version), I want to be able to restore my system to operation. The reason for "two?" I'm hoping that since I am overly prepared, I won't ever need even one. ;)

I do, the newer style. They let me send back the "bad style" which was very nice of them.

I've been meaning to pick up a spare to carry. What is the "Newer style"? Will it fit most newer models?

I think if you order it now then that's what you get.

Here is the newer pump installed in the distribution module. The two older pumps can be seen on the right.

I carry a spare pump and 1 year service kit. On our 2017 I did the service at 15 months and figured I would do again if I had an issue, otherwise just do at 3 years. As for the pump, I changed 2 of the 3 pumps on the 2017 which came with the old style. Hope I never need on new coach which should be updated pump.

I did a yearly service the first year. The parts I replaced looked virtually unused. We almost never use the Oasis to heat the coach as we have heated floors and an electric fireplace. I’m going to skip a year as in our case I think the yearly service is not really needed.

I’m guessing this is similar to oil changes in our vehicles. It’s a well known fact that the oil never breaks down but, instead, get contaminated over time. And, with the modern clean running engines, this interval is increasing to ridiculously long periods in terms of mileage. That said, “some experts” will lead you to believe that during long periods of low mileage, oil should be changed out. I really don’t buy into that logic.

So, I’ve applied the above thoughts to the maintenance of my entire rig, including the Oasis. Until now, I’ve not even thought about it.

With 14,000 miles in the first year, I don’t even consider my components broken in. Local RV mechanics have told me to not even worry until 3 years. Just good ok routine checks to make sure everything is topped off and tightened up.

@CaptainGizmo, how do you plan on covering warranty situations with engine/chassis manufacturer if they wish to see service records for warranty work?

I did the one year service with less than 100 hours on the unit. I got the part from ITR. Called the next year to get parts gave the tech the hours (121) and he asked why I was doing the yearly. I told him it had been a year since the last service. He told me that no more hours than I was using the diesel burner to wait at least five years before changing anything. He said then do the five year maintenance. So going on five years and I have less than 200 hours on the diesel burner. We have reservations to the HOOTS rally in Spearfish SD in September and I'll have the Oasis tech do the five year maintenance while there.

I bought a spare pump today from ITR. Great customer service. 225 plus shipping seemed like good insurance.

Not concerned one bit. I’ve had that discussion with a local shop and the service interval has no pertinence in terms of warranty. After all, what would go wrong that an oil change at 6 months would cause versus waiting until 18 months?

I know of more guys who do their OWN servicing to save money. So...records? Uh yeah...sure. ;-)

Might not be the case when it comes to an extended warranty. On our previous coach the radiator sprung a leak after the mfg warranty had expired. This was a known problem but the extended warranty company would not cover the repair unless I could prove that I had serviced the radiator according to the manufacture’s recommendations. My records allowed me to have them cover a $5000 r&r of the radiator.

Sure. Understood. I guess the question would be what actual item is. For example, you will see an oil change suggested for 6 months, yet not a single (honest) shop said that was necessary until a year at the soonest.
I realize it’s a big gamble if you don’t do the research first.

I had a summer loop pump fail just out of warranty. Newmar picked it up 100%. At around 14 months I had my first service done on the Oasis. After reading some of the information on this thread I think I'll wait until next year and have it serviced again.

Tonight I did my OASIS service. I was planning on skipping the year per the discussion above but I'm glad I did not. The service WAS needed and for what I saw tonight I will continue to do this annually. On the fuel nozzle there is an o-ring, mine was cracked and peeled off, it was no good. The filters were quite dirty. Granted, I use burner more than most as you may recall I could never get good hot water out of only electric elements as I later found out I had a second short within my unit. Regardless, this is so easy to do and it's so worth it getting it cleaned out per the youtube video provided by ITR that you should just do it.

There is no need to pay anyone to do this service for you. Watch the video, it is so easy that everyone can do this. There is nothing to be afraid of and you'll feel great to have done it yourself.
