We were on the road today, but we will check all of your suggestions. Our mattress can not be more than 8” , or will not fit under the cabinets when slide is in.
One thing to consider is the weight of the new mattress. We have a Sleep Number, and like it, especially with a puffy soft mattress pad. However, even with our mattress, I struggle a bit when lifting the bed to access the storage underneath. Judy D

So did we (the wife) until I installed one more lift strut and it's all good now. You can also get higher pressure struts to replace the ones you have. I use Lift Supports | Gas Struts & Springs | Lift Supports Depot
They have cross references and specs based on the P/N on your current strut and reasonable priceing
