@Old-RV'er I understand hestiancy. In fact, I would assume 99% of RV owners agree with your position.

What is nice about this solution, is it is 100% reversable. Nothing is done permanent. The original software remains untouched. Many cars require soldering of the ECM/ECU in order to make changes to the exhaust systems. With Cummins, the settings are all software toggles. Anyone with a licensed version of Cummins INSITE can do this.

Cummins engines are used in marine applications, some of which do not require the DPF/DEF/SGR/etc. They are also used by Military, farming, and industry applications, again which do not require the EPA revisions. That is why it is so simple to disable and reenable.

Redbaron, it is still nice to have "an out"!

There is a happy middle ground here. Carry a laptop, most everyone does anyway, purchase and learn the software and how to use it. If you become stranded with a emissions code, install the software to eliminate the software commanded engine stop. Get to where you can get service or home.
Reinstall stock software and repair emissions fault.
Every one is now happy??

BTW, there is a program for Farmers that allows this exact process. Avoids them loosing a crop if the machine goes down during harvest.

Agreed. The only unknown factor is how long can you run without bypassing the filters. With the software disabled, the filters won't be activating, heating, etc.

The bypass is the most complicated part that requires pre planning and fabrication.

There may be ways to not cause damage to the scr, dpf, and other equipment. I need to study insite options in more detail.

What is the purpose of DEF in the after-treatment and more importantly what are the effects of the after-treatment not getting supplied with DEF? Any concerning side-effects of something getting permanently damaged when an expected fluid is not present?

Or in an emergency you might try this.

The emulator is the best option. I have yet to find one for cummins.

Redbarron thanks for sharing! Shoot... I was hoping for an easier fix.... I'm a full timer w/o a shop/garage which will allow me to change mufflers. I do miss my tools!!!
